Bio

Raphael Saadiq is an American singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, known for his deep contributions to the genres of R&B, soul, and neo-soul. Born Charles Ray Wiggins in Oakland, California, Saadiq began his musical journey as a teenager and rose to fame in the late 1980s as a member of the multiplatinum group Tony! Toni! Toné! Alongside his brother D’Wayne Wiggins and cousin Timothy Christian Riley, the group delivered a string of hits including “Feels Good,” “Anniversary,” and “It Never Rains (In Southern California),” helping to redefine the sound of R&B with a fusion of traditional soul and contemporary production.

After the group disbanded, Saadiq launched a successful solo career and became a sought-after producer. His solo work—especially albums like *Instant Vintage*, *The Way I See It*, and *Stone Rollin’*—earned critical acclaim for blending classic soul aesthetics with modern sensibilities. Known for his rich, analog sound and thoughtful songwriting, Saadiq has created music that pays homage to Motown and the 1970s soul era while pushing the genre forward.

Beyond his own recordings, Saadiq has worked behind the scenes with some of the biggest names in music, including D’Angelo, Solange, Erykah Badu, John Legend, and Beyoncé. His production work has helped shape the neo-soul movement and elevate the sound of contemporary R&B. Whether performing or producing, Raphael Saadiq’s impact on modern music is unmistakable—his artistry is rooted in tradition yet refreshingly innovative.
