Bio

Jay Sean is a British singer, songwriter, and record producer known for blending R&B, pop, and hip-hop into a smooth and catchy sound. Born Kamaljit Singh Jhooti in London, England, he first rose to prominence in the UK music scene in the early 2000s with his debut album *Me Against Myself* (2004), which featured a mix of British-Asian and urban influences. His early success in the UK, especially with tracks like “Eyes on You” and “Stolen,” established him as one of the first major South Asian artists to break into mainstream Western music.

Jay Sean gained international fame when he signed with Cash Money Records in the United States and released the hit single “Down” featuring Lil Wayne in 2009. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100, making him the first solo artist of South Asian descent to achieve that feat. This success marked a turning point in his career, opening up opportunities in the American market and solidifying his place as a global pop and R&B star. His follow-up singles like “Do You Remember” and “2012 (It Ain’t the End)” also saw strong chart performances.

Over the years, Jay Sean has remained active in the music industry, collaborating with a range of artists across genres and exploring independent releases. Known for his smooth vocals, catchy hooks, and cross-cultural appeal, he has earned respect not just for his commercial success but also for paving the way for greater representation of South Asian artists in Western pop music. His blend of Eastern and Western sounds continues to resonate with diverse audiences around the world.
